Chimney care before small faults spread

The stack stands clear of the main roof slope, so wind, frost and rain attack it harder than the tiles below. Mortar opens up, lead lifts, and water finds a path onto timber and plaster. On Cloud Roofing carries out chimney repairs across Coventry, from repointing and flashing work through to partial and full rebuilds.

Whether the job is modest or extensive, we aim for a neat finish that matches the rest of the roof and keeps water outside the building.

Chimney repair work

How we can help

Chimney stack and leadwork

Stack rebuilds

Where the upper brickwork is unsafe we rebuild in stages, with scaffolding when height and access require it.

Lead and flashings

We renew or repair lead at the base and sides of the stack so water cannot track sideways into the loft.

Pots, flaunching and flues

Crown detail, chimney pots and terminals are reset or replaced so the top of the stack sheds water and vents safely.

Partial work compared with a full rebuild

Localised rebuilds

Smaller stacks sometimes need only part of the brickwork taken down and rebuilt. Access may be simpler and the job can often finish within a short programme if scaffolding is light.

Full chimney rebuilds

When the stack is unstable top to bottom we strip to a sound base, rebuild to current detail, and dispose of debris safely. These jobs need full scaffolding and more time on site.

Things to watch on your chimney

  • The stack leans visibly off vertical
  • Bricks are cracked, spalled or missing
  • Individual bricks sit proud or loose
  • Open joints or missing mortar letting water in
  • Damaged or missing pots and loose flaunching
  • Damp on chimney breasts or ceilings after rain

Any of these signs can lead to wider damage inside the house if they are ignored. If you are unsure, book an inspection through our contact form or call +44 7347 703756.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Chimneys sit above the roof and take wind and rain straight on. Flashing, flaunching and mortar joints fail first. We trace the path of water from the stack into the roof before we quote.

We repair masonry and roof junctions. Any gas flue or appliance work must be signed off by a Gas Safe engineer. We will tell you if your terminal needs that specialist input.
